House Resolution 270 Affirming Key Peace Principles of Agreement between President Bush and Prime Minister Sharon before Israel’s Unilateral Withdrawal from Gaza
Prior to Israel’s bold move for peace by unilaterally disengaging from Gaza, President Bush and PM Sharon exchanged letters of agreement about the “Peace Process.” Read the letters. House members have introduced a resolution (H. Res. 270) that reaffirms the peace principles articulated by President George W. Bush in 2004. The resolution, introduced by Reps. Robert Dold (R-IL) and Gary Peters (D-MI), cites a letter sent by President Bush to Israel that calls it unrealistic to expect Israel to return to the 1967 borders. The resolution affirms that the United States is committed to “secure, recognized, and defensible borders [for Israel], and to preserving and strengthening the capability of Israel to deter enemies and defend itself against any threat.” Read the resolution.
