1967 Lines

Right of Self Defense and Secure Borders–How Deep is Strategic Depth?
The “1967 lines” are really the armistice lines of 1949 that were set following Israel’s war of independence and survival and never legalized as borders. As Prime Minister Netanyahu explained, the 9 mile width of Israel from the Mediterranean to the “green line” is half the width of the Washington DC Beltway. In Chicago terms, that is the distance from Lake Michigan to Harlem Avenue. In Manhattan, that spans Battery Park to the George Washington

Bridge; in Los Angeles,  LAX to downtown Santa Monica. View a video that puts Israel’s minimum defense requirements in the context of its neighborhood.
